Plantlife International, founded in 2015 by Bonga Vanqa and Emile de Bruin, is an inclusive bonsai studio and nursery that champions sustainability and environmental consciousness. What began as a modest grafting operation in Ceres has flourished into a thriving bonsai nursery. Our journey has been enriched through extensive travels and interactions with bonsai nurseries worldwide, fostering a deeper understanding of the art and science of bonsai, or "potted plants."
We meticulously grow, incubate, and experiment with plants for bonsai and Niwaki (landscape trees) to the highest standard. We also import specific materials to bring excellence to our local market. In addition, we proudly offer many educational opportunities. Our workshops and seminars, both locally and internationally, are designed to foster a sense of growth and collaboration.
Our mission is clear: to cultivate and promote bonsai as a form of pot plant art, making it accessible to enthusiasts and the broader community. Bonsai, to us, is a canvas for creative and scientific expression. Our distinctive fusion of modern and classic approaches seeks to ignite our valued customers' creativity and curiosity and bring a sense of inclusivity.
Sustainability lies at the core of our ethos. We salvage unwanted trees and shrubs, conserving indigenous species and transforming them into landscape or bonsai trees. This commitment to conservation seamlessly connects with the practice of bonsai art, where we nurture the beauty of these trees and honor their natural heritage.
Beyond being a nursery, we continually push the boundaries of what's possible in the world of pot plants. Our forthcoming 2000m² garden near Cape Town, scheduled to open in mid-late 2024, will house a diverse bonsai collection and create a botanical garden atmosphere. This inviting space will feature educational facilities, a studio, a conference room, and a library—a hub for enthusiasts to learn, grow, and thrive together.
